Objectives
  • To carry out economic and trade studies for the purpose of promoting the idea of establishing an Islamic Common Market with the goal of setting up such a market and integrating the economies of the OIC member states.
  • To conduct research and studies with a view to identifying and realizing the vast potentials in natural, human and capital resources in Islamic countries with the purpose of contributing to sustainable economic development in these countries.
  • To initiate studies and research in the area of regional, inter-regional and sub-regional economic and trade arrangements among Islamic countries with the objective of establishing an Islamic Common Market.
  • To undertake studies to enrich and enhance the individual and collective efforts of the OIC member countries in international markets in the face of globalization, interdependence and trade liberalizations.
  • To identify the economic and trade complementarities among the OIC member countries with a view to enhancing economic, commercial, agricultural and industrial co-operation at regional and sub-regional levels
  • Taking into account the requirements of the new international trading system, to study ways and means by which the OIC could attain its rightful share and position in the world trade, by interalia, creating an Islamic Common Market.
  • To study the modalities for the co-operation of the OIC member states in the areas of market access,common trade policies, transfer of technology, money and finance, investment and services, E-commerce and the formation of information networks which could be conducive to the establishment of an ICM.
  • To identify the medium and long-term economic and trade problems facing member states and put forward practical solutions for them.
  • To specify the comparative advantages of the countries at commodity and sectoral levels.
  • To identify the Trade potentials among the OIC Member States.
  • To actively participate in different fora of the OIC and share the outcomes of the research and studies with the OIC and its member states.
  • Organizing specialized seminars and conferences at the national and international levels in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and information among the experts, and also participating actively in similar seminars outside the country and participation in different expert groups on ICM and also taking part in seminars and workshops organized by the OIC and its subsidiaries and affiliated organs.
