The first seminar held at national level was entitled “Expansion of Economic and Trade Cooperation among Islamic Countries”, and the second , which was held at international level was the international seminar on “Ways and Means of Establishing an Islamic Common Market”. The latter seminar was a joint initiative of the ITSR and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). The seminar was inaugurated by the message of H.E. Seyyed Mohammad Khatami, the President of I.R. Iran, and the then president of the OIC. The details about the participants, papers, speeches, deliberations and the proceedings of the two seminars are published in two books one of which is in English and the other in Persian. For further details, please consult www.CARSICM.ir The proceedings of the seminar and its recommendation were presented at the First Expert Group Meeting on the implications of establishing an Islamic Common Market and at the Ninth summit conference of OIC . It is worth mentioning that this initiative was commended by that summit in operative paragraph of its resolution 37/9-E(IS).

The other activities of the Center include, holding of specialized seminars and conferences at the national and international levels in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and information among experts; participating actively in similar seminars abroad; participation in different expert groups on ICM; and also taking part in seminars and workshops organized by the OIC and its subsidiaries and affiliated organs. In this respect it is worth mentioning that following the successful convening of the Eighth Session of the Islamic Summit Conference of the Organization of Islamic Conference in Tehran, Ministry of Commerce of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran was entrusted with the task of following up on the economic decisions of the summit in the Ministry of Commerce. In the light of operative paragraph 5 of Resolution 33/8- E(IS), which urged institutions at regional and national levels to study the implications of establishing an ICM among member states, the Institute for Trade Studies and Research (ITSR) affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Iran convened two seminars.
