The main objectives of this department are:
- Investigating the policies adopted by Islamic countries to protect or liberalize their economies with the aim of determining the proper schemes and regional arrangements for the establishment of an ICM through:
- Identifying the existing trading blocks among Islamic countries and searching for ways and means to strengthen and expand them.
- To investigate ways and means of creating the core building blocks for the establishment of an ICM.
- To carry out research to identify the possibility of formulating common trade policies in general and in the area of productivity and services amongst the Islamic countries as a basis for the establishment of an ICM, and signing the related agreements and protocols there of.
- To study ways of enhancing market access for goods and services through bilateral and multilateral negotiations, and negotiating schedule of commitments with the aim of establishing an ICM.
- To study and provide a clear picture of the structure of trade among Islamic countries in terms of similarity and complementary.
- To study the structure of economic development among Islamic countries and their cooperation in different areas of economic development with the aim of integrating their economies through the establishment of an ICM.
